I recently became the proud owner of a 1992 Bart Reiter Tubaphone purchased from a fellow BHO member. I have made a few changes setup wise to the banjo. New Elite Amber head, 5/8 Scorpion bridge, Kershner tailpiece, and DAddario J61 strings. I also own and play a 2013 Reiter Regent and in comparing the 2 instruments I have to say the Regent is an easier banjo to play. It is much more tolerant of what I will call sloppy playing. The Tubaphone wants you to be precise with your right hand or it lets you know. Do you think this is just the nature of different instruments or something to do with the setup. I have read here and in a number of other places that Tubaphones sound great when setup properly.I never thought about how the setup might affect the playability. I think mine sounds good but is there a general accepted setup for Tubaphones or is the setup strictly individual choice and instrument dependant?

	BDCA says: 4/28/2016 3:13:51 PM What are the last 3 digits of the serial? I recently sold a 92 Tubaphone. My experience was that the Elite head needs to be TIGHT. At least 92 on a drum dial. Remember that this banjo was designed as a rhythm instrument designed to punch through a jazz band using a skin head and gut strings.. I decided it was a bit too punchy from my style of playing and opted for 12" banjos. Bob
	dhinds4100 says: 4/29/2016 6:26:16 AM Ser # 885 I play in a band and I introduced the Tubaphone to the members last night. I was surprised by the comments that the Tubaphone sounded softer or more mellow than my Regent. Not a bad thing at all. Again I like the sound including the additional substain. In retrospect I think my original comment has more to do with what setup means in terms of how a banjo sounds verses playability, and the relationship between the two. Does that make any sense? Anyways the Tubaphone is a keeper. I have the head tensioned at 89 on the drum dail.
