	ponty says: 3/2/2011 3:05:28 PM Are all A-scale banjos actually A flat? I thought A-scale was equal to a standard banjo capoed at the 2nd fret.
	jbalch says: 3/2/2011 6:11:08 PM Bart's "A-scale" banjos are no longer made "exactly" as if you capo his standard fretboard at the 2nd fret. From what I understand, he stopped making them that way in the mid 1990s - due to the fact that no commercial truss rod was then available in the correct length. In order to produce an "exact" A-scale banjo, Bart had to make the truss rods in his shop. That eventually became too time consuming and costly. He discontinued the A-scale option for a period of time. When the current A-scale model was re-introduced a few years ago, Bart began using a truss rod designed for guitar necks. It is shorter than his standard scale...plenty short to tune to A. But it is not a "true" A-scale like the older models. My 1994 custom Grand Concert is one of the older true a-scale banjos. It was my principal banjo for many years and is a joy to play.
