New Bart Reiter Galax

From mtmncobb on 11/21/2013 12:17:47 PM

I just got a new Bart Reiter Galax model so figured I better join the Bart Reiter group. It is a great banjo! I put a calfskin on it and have been testing bridges and now have it sounding pretty much the way I want it. I'll probably get sick of tightening and loosening the head and go back to the Elite that came with it though. I've wanted a Reiter ever since I was a kid sitting around drooling over the Elderly catalog. Mission accomplished!

Congrats on the new banjo...great choice....PS....I use John Balch hide heads and they are great. They settle in fast and have never been any more maintenance than synthetic heads. They are the perfect complement to a Bart Reiter banjo, in my opinion. Regards, Rick

Montanarick, thanks for the congrats! I would buy a head from John but I have a bunch that I got from Bill Miller quite a while ago and I need to use them up. A few people have asked me to mount heads
for them and I always refer them to one of Johns pre-mounted. Press the easy button!
usmc2msu, I take it from your user name that you were/are a Marine. Thanks for your service. Our country needs all the help it can get at this point!
I really am liking the Galax, I'm glad you like yours.

Congratulations and welcome to the group. Hope that banjo serves you well. When are you going to visit your brother down here in Nashville? Be sure to look me up when you do.

I used a lot of Bill Miller's hides myself. He was a great guy to do business with. I learned a lot from my correspondence with him.

Hey John, thanks for the welcome! I am planning a trip to Nashville to visit Shad and Matt sometime in late June, early July of next year. I would love to get together with you and play some tunes. I'm real leery of putting my banjos on a plane so will probably be giving Carlos a thrashing!

My friend Fred Carpenter here just ordered a Reiter Galax and he really likes the skin head on mine. I told him you are the go to guy. He has to wait until Elderly gets another one before he gets it though. 2-3 months probably.

I too am a convert to John's skin heads. I put one on my Reiter tubaphone and hardly if ever have to adjust the head. I have owned many banjo's and the only one I have kept is my Reiter.

I recently bought a BR Galax, and my other banjos are all pouting.
