String Recommendations

From sseiple on 7/20/2013 11:21:04 AM

I just purchased a used Bart Reiter Round Peak banjo, and this is my first open back banjo. Does anyone know what strings Bart Reiter puts on his new Round Peak's? I would be interested in any recommendations, thoughts or observations about what different types of strings might sound good on this banjo. Thanks!

Steve

I purchased my RP used. It arrived strung with GHS JD Crow strings. When it came time to restring I through on some slightly heavier Ernie Ball 80/20 Bronze Frailing strings. Out of these two sets, I prefer the Ernie Balls. I am interested to see what others have to say. Strings are so subjective (and inexpensive) that it is usually best to just try out different sets.

I used the same strings (Ernie Ball) on my round peak and I currently use them on my Deering Little Wonder and my BR Bacophone....You don't hear much about them but they are my favorite strings....

Thanks for the input Ryan and Rick! Sounds like the Ernie Ball 80/20's are something I will have to try.

That's the great thing about strings....they're fairly cheap so you can experiment until you find what you like

Bart is a member of this forum. If you e-mail him (through the BHO), I bet he will respond regarding OEM strings.

I like GHS PF150 strings with a bronze 4th.

Bart put D'Addario mediums on my Round Peak ... back in 2009.

I also bought my Round Peak in 2009, and Bart told me he was using D'Addario mediums, same on my Ab scale I bought in late 2010. I have read somewhere that he is using GHS mediums lately.
