Rolled Brass Tone Hoop vs Tone Ring?

I just realized that the Round Peak that I am getting has a rolled brass tone hoop instead of a tone ring. I never heard of these before. Can someone maybe fill me in on tone hoops? Are they better for certain types of playing? Do they sound much different than rings? Thanks!

	blanham says: 5/23/2013 3:47:20 AM I think "hoop" and "ring" are 2 words for the same thing. It's just that there is a spectrum of tone rings that are used. The rolled brass tone ring is one of the lightest weight types available. I have a lot of Round Peak recordings on my Hangout music page, if you want to hear examples.

	jbalch says: 5/23/2013 4:32:15 AM As the photo linked above shows the "hoop" is about 1/2" tall and a bit less than 1/4" thick. It sits in a rabbet cut in the outside perimiter of the rim. Compared to a simple rolled brass ring (round), this gives the hoop more contact surface with the wood rim. 	jbalch says: 5/23/2013 4:36:08 AM I just linked a photo of a Reiter "Special" rim with the head removed - to show the tone hoop. This is the "jig" I use to pre-mount hide heads. The photo is titled as such.
