Bacophone Plus

From Oldpiper on 11/30/2012 8:55:29 AM

Just ordered a Bacophone Plus from Spruce Tree Music. Don't normally like to buy new, but I'm semi-brain dead anyway. Looking forward to it as both John Balch and Bob Lanham recommend that model.

I have one as well, based on the GALAX model That is a mahogany neck, with Whyte Laydie Tone ring fitted with Bacon-style donut, (and in my case with John Balch African goat skin head.) It's great. You'll love it. I call it a GALAX plus to distinguish form a Whyte Ladie
Plus (maple neck and rim). I think Bart uses the nomenclature Bacophone-Plus for combinations of Bacon-style tone ring fitted atop a Whyte Laydie, but it doesn't indicate tha wood construction.

So, how does the Bacophone and the Galax differ with the Round Peak?

Bacophone has a Bacon-style tone ring plus a Whyte Ladie, Galax has a White Ladie. The RP has a rolled brass tone ring and is 12" vice 11" for the other two. (I think this is all correct.)

That is correct. However, I added a Bacon-style ring to my 11" Galax (mahogany) and a Bacon style tone ring to my Whyte Laydie (maple). So, I remember thenm as Galax-Plus and Whyte Laydie-Plus, although Bart did not add the Bacons. I did. I was able to get three Bacon-style rings from Stew MAc, but they are hard to get. I'm not sure what neck the Bacophone-Plus comes with, but if mahogany, then I believe it would be the same as what I call Galax-Plus. The Round Peak does indeed have a rolled brass tone ring in a 12" rim. (ps. Oldpiper, the Doc's JUST arrived, yet to be unpacked. I'm going to pursue letting y Round Peak go to make room.)

jmoathout, you mentioned the possibility of letting it go in an earlier post. Please keep me in mind when and if you decide to let that happen.

I'm ready. I sent an e-mail a few days ago but will check to make sure it went through. Thanks for the interest.

raptor45, I'm not sure my messages are getting through to you. Can you send me your e-mail address as a private message thru BHO?

Congratulations Fred. I hope you love the banjo. Maybe I'll see it when I'm in St Augustine.

raptor45, I hate to use the group forum for this, but I've sent you three test and real messages in the last 30 minutes. Did you get them? I think something may be broken in our e-mail links.

Oldpiper says:

Thanks, John. I hope you get a chance to see it.
