Bacophone for Christmas

From chief4774 on 12/7/2011 11:05:30 PM

I bought a Bacophone for my wife's Christmas present. Having a little buyers remorse. She has been playing a Good Time with resonator and commented she would prefer a open back. She's been taking lessons. Anyway did I do ok, or overshoot? Thanks

I expect it will be lighter without a resonator, so she'll love the lighter weight - I know I do. I think she'll like the upgrade to an ebony fingerboard ... easier to play. Tone is subjective, but you can tweak the sound in a hundred ways. Plus, it looks a LOT better. Good decision!

Larry: The Reiter Bacophone is a fantastic instrument. It is extremely well-made - in the USA - by a master luthier. The Bacon tone ring adds a subtle hint of sustain to the great open-back tone. They sound and play great.

Bart's designs are solid but simple - so the instruments are superior values. They are priced so that an intermediate player can justify buying one. But they are built with all the features and quality that makes them favorites of professional players worldwide.

The Deering Goodtime is a good banjo. The Reiter Bacophone is a very nice and logical step up. Congratulations on the purchase ...you wife is fortunate. I hope she loves it and think she will.

Thank you for the positive comments. I feel much better after reading them. Bacophone arrived yesterday, so will let it adjust for a day or two before I open her up.
Arrived well packaged for its trip to Alaska.
I hope her response is a positive as those given.
Will let you know.

What a fine thing to do and a fine choice. The Reoter is a lifetime banjo, no upgrade necessary.

I have owned three Bart Reiter banjos, two including the one I have now, have the Bacon tone ring. While I liked my Whyte Laydie style Regent, the Bacon ring is my favorite.

Congratulations to both of you. !
