All,

Thought you might be interested in the internal construction of one of these fine instruments. It was a pleasure to disassemble and analyze.

The tone ring assembly is quite thin and delicate, but is "fortified" by a rolled rod inside the shell. The workmanship on the wooden assembly is elegant, as you'll see.

	jbalch says: 9/5/2011 4:26:10 PM The internal resonator rim and construction is essentially the same between the two models. The Grand Concert had fancier inlay. Even though both were discontinued long ago, the detailed descriptions are still on Bart's website. My "grand concert-plus" was custom ordered with extra features like the whyte laydie tone ring (under the bacon ring), fancier fingerboard inlay, figured maple, heel carving, backstrap...etc. Those were not standard features of the grand concert. Prior to about 1994, from what I understand Bart hand-cut the f-holes. The earlier banjos were standard with two (2). You could order more...an at upcharge for the extra labor. Around the time ordered mine, Bart set up a jig to make cutting the f-holes easier. Afterwards, he made eight (8) the standard on all internal resonator rims. As you know the internal resonator models were discontinued several years ago. However, from time to time in the recent past, Bart would make one up and sell it. Some of the ones he sold on the last year or two had only two (2) f-holes. I'm sure why...unless he was using up older left-over rims. The one he sold on ebaY recently was advertised as the last he would make...the end of an era.
