I have a Reiter professional -- it's a great banjo. Best of luck to all birders!

I have a mint condition same model Bart Reiter Bacon FF PROFESSIONAL Chubby Dragon Banjo. It has a carved heel with a large inlayed heel cap and Back Strapping with ingraved griffen inlay on the back of the peg head.
If I were going to sell this banjo, what do you think it is worth??

John: That is a good question. The ebay sale at $3200 was encouraging regarding the potential value. But I don't know how much would be added by the extra details. Really fancy Reiter banjos sell so seldom that there is little comparable information to go on for valuation. The last time a remember seeing one sell was a few years ago. I don't remember the details but it seems like it brought $3200-3500 at that time.

As Bart really does contemplate full retirement from banjo-making, I think his rare custom models should be recognized and appreciated as the best intruments of an era...and perhaps they will more collectable.

What year was yours made? Did Ron Chacey carve the heel?

Sorry John,
I've been away for a few days, and didn't realize you had responded to my post.

My Bart Reiter FF PROFFESSIONAL Deluxe Banjo was built in 1989 with the serial # 376 The carved heel sure looks like it was done by Ron Chacey. This banjo is has the best chubby dragon ingraving I have ever seen.
I need to contact Bart to find out how many of this model with the carved heel and back strapping he has produced. I would think, not very many.
