What model Reiter?

From ancient tones on 4/16/2026 9:27:41 AM

I have this scruffy banjo on trial before I buy it and am curious what model it could be? It's a 2008, I believe.

First off, one strum with these tarnished strings sounded great. It's a mahogany neck, 1/2" rim looks like maple, ebony fretboard, heel cap, headstock overlay. I can't tell about the tone ring except it's a yellowish color. It seems loud however I don't have much experience to compare it to.

I don't mind the tarnished hardware and age. The fret wear is minimal. I plan to re-string it and check the head tightness.

Thanks for any input you may have. I'll probably keep it. I have to look at the neck carefully and check out the hardware. Images are in my profile. I'll try to post some here if I can.

If the rim is 1/2” thick, it’s a Standard model. It has the typical rolled tone ring Bart installed on the Standards. I like the specs of these banjos. Hope it works out for you!

Back it goes. I installed new strings, wiped it off, tightened the tuners... whoops three of the bracket nuts are frozen. Oh well, the case smelled funky anyway. The price wasn't low enough to deal with this.

There are plenty of Reiter banjos out there. Keep looking. You will find a gem!

Thank you John and others. I know Patrick and live near Pisgah Banjo company. I have owned Pisgahs in the early days of the company and my wife has a Possum persimmon tone ring model. I'll probably head over there soon.

The Reiter and Ramsey I was trying came from Guitar Center online. The Reiter was priced well but had years of neglect. The Ramsey was way over-priced at $2500. It's nice, but was not any better than other quality banjos. At least for a beginner like me.

I do want to try a skin head at some point soon.

Best regards
Chris
