Yes, there are more than usual, and another is described as a 2000 Special, but the photos appear to be a Standard. (Item 230595432625)

Well, I bought this one. I thought I was buying a beater and planned it as a re-finish project. When I opened the box, I was shocked to see it looked like it had never been played, literally. It smelled smoky, so I completely disassembled it and cleaned it with a touch of brass polish and lemon oil. Had to touch up the frets at the edge of the fingerboard, which was pretty dry. Looks and plays like a brand new banjo (it's from 1991 - s/n 638).

Congrats! How does it compare to your Vega special?

I'm glad someone got it. I'm going through Bart Reiter withdrawl...I should have never sold my Galax...pretty soon one of these is going to find its way back into my hands again...but if anyone has my old Galax SN: 2745...I would gladly buy it back...

I know what you mean - they're hard to resist. I had no intention of buying another banjo but, there it was and not many bids on it.
As for comparing it to the Vega - they're very similar physically, by design. The Vega neck has that rounded V shape but the scale length is the same so they feel about the same. The Reiter is louder, no doubt because of the bigger and heavier brass tone ring.
