Pricing question about my Bacophone Plus banjo

From atleson on 12/29/2017 11:02:55 AM

Hi all,

advancing age and reduced space means I have to part with some of my instruments, even though it's hard.  This one is a fairly recent Bacophone Plus [hot rod---two tone rings] bought when Bart's last group of them was sent to Elderly.  It hs been lightly played and is as close to mint as one can get.   Any idea what a fair price might be?

Does your banjo have a mahogany neck? Or maple? is is stained dark?

This configuration is still my all-time favorite. I have two (2) of them (one mahogany and one maple). They are my "go-to" banjos.

Looks like Elderly prices them at $1595 (no case). Their price on a Canadian case is $195 (that seems high these days). So in theory a new one might be almost $1800. They are not always available - so you might reasonably expect a significant wait to get a new one.

Even though your banjo is essentially new, I suspect that a buyer would want a slight discount to the new price. My guess is something like $1500-1600 would be a bargain for the buyer and a fair price overall.

thanks so much John. That's very helpful. Mine, by the way, has a mahogany neck. I looked at it, played a little and that's not usually conducive to maintaining an intent to sell. It's very nice.

My absolute favorite one has a mahogany neck. I got it in 2006. It has very "warm", "throaty" tone. I have used it on a number of performances and recordings including this version of "Little Rosewood Casket" by Dolly Parton.

Great playing, John.
