CD release March 10th at the Press Club

From zdl7754 on 3/1/2011 11:30:11 AM

If you're interested in banjo that isn't bluegrass or old-time, you might like this.

Unassumed Sideroads, a full length CD of original music by Loren Hicks is coming out March 10th, at the Press Club on at 850 Dundas (by Ossington), starting at 8 o'clock.

You may know me as the Hicks from Hicks & Dawe and the Gothic irreuglars. We've been playing around town occassionally for about 10 years (Blcak Swan, Local, Gate 403, Graffiti's, Press Club, ...)

This is a solo CD, all banjo based. There are some instrumentals, and some full songs.
All the people who helped with the CD, and played on various tracks, will be there to join me at various times on the stage. Sheldon "Doc" Dawe, my partner in Hicks & Dawe will be the mainstay, with Gothic Irregulars Neil Kitagawa on bass and sax, and Ken Osmond on guitar. Special guests will include Phil Wright and Logan Murray, with very special guest the notable Pineapple Frank and his dobro.

The Irregulars will open, then we'll do a set from the CD, and close playing various tunes until we can't play any more. Aside from the CD tunes, most of the music will be written by people on the stage. Doc, Ken, Phil, and Logan all have written must-hear songs.

Cover will be $10 at the door, $15 gets you in and a CD, and $20 gets a couple in and a CD. yes the definition of couple is loose ... All proceeds will go to the band, and to cover a portion of the CD costs.

It will be an evening of great fun and celebration, with a talented lineup you'll never get the chance to see again.

Hi Loren,
I'm not a Toronto resident. I'm from Port Hope. Is the Press Club anywhere near The Dakota?
