Just bought a banjola..!! :)

From susi Lawson on 7/29/2012 11:04:31 PM

Hi ya'll , I just bought  a Banjola, got a good deal on ebay and could not resist , it is the  a Pat Cloud model. I am a newbie so any advice is appreciated. I am STILL just learning. Had an old Kay banjo open back and even though every one seemed to think it was well worth what I paid, I just didn't care for the sound. I heard come clips on youtube from a Banjola and just loved the more mellow melodic sound of it. I like to practice late at night and not get the dogs howling or the neighbors complaining and I think this Banjola will be perfect for that.
Are there any lessons out there for this instrument or is it the same as banjo?
Thanks!!

Susi

Same as a banjo.

I heard that the strings resonate longer than a banjo and that it is better suited for slower playing?

To some extent. Banjolas are a bit more mellow in tone. Amplifies well though.

Yes, definitely softer, that is what I like about it!

I've had a Gold Tone banjola for several years and love the thing. While it can be played exactly the same as the 5-string banjo, I think it lends itself best to more delicate tunes, and played 2/3-finger or guitar-style. Clawhammer, in my opinion, would be inappropriate, but you never know how innovative people can be.
