This is a lovely instrument that would make a great Irish tenor banjo or five string conversion. I would have elected to go the first route, but the neck angle on this one is pretty bad so I’m going to let whoever buys this one from me dictate it’s next chapter of life.
It has a 10-15/16” maple rim with likely the original calf skin head, given that “1925” is inscribed in there. The plating on the tension hoop, bracket band, and tonering is in good but not great shape with some sporadic pitting. The hooks have a lot of their plating worn off. There is no tailpiece.
The maple neck is straight, though shows signs of use. The fist few of the 17 frets on the ebony fretboard show some wear, though likely not enough to need a refret. Tuners are not present, though there is a beautiful deal decal from “J. B. Wilson Music Co.” in Wilmington, Delaware on the back of the headstock. Again, the neck angle isn’t great on this one so a neck reset would be necessary for future use as a tenor banjo.
It comes in what’s left of the original hard case, which will likely not be of much use besides extra protection in shipping. Thanks for looking and feel free to reach out with any questions.
