This slightly strange but ultimately excellent sounding and very cool banjo has drifted in an out of my possession a couple times and I always enjoy having it around.
It is a 1925 Vega Tubaphone 10-15/16” rim that sports modern hooks, nuts, and tailpiece. The neck is from a 1910 or so Lyon and Healy Mystic. This lovely mahogany neck was broken at the heel the first time I acquired it. I had it epoxied back together so it is rock solid, though you can see the repair in certain areas of the heel carving. The ebony fretboard has a 25-3/4” scale length. The four tuners on the peg head are new Gotoh. There are a few random holes from a fifth string capo, some rather large railroad spikes, and some tuners that must have been on the neck long before I acquired it. None of these afflictions by drill bit affect the structural integrity of the instrument. It comes in a new condition Guardian Hardshell case.
This is a solid vintage banjo that will cost you less than a Tubaphone tonering appointed banjo from most modern makers and certainly much less than if it had an original five string Vega Neck. Thanks for looking and feel free to reach out with any questions!
