I bought this thing at a pawnshop in West Virginia. It was attached to a Tubaphone plectrum neck with a different serial number that had been modified to be a five string. In that moment it sounded pretty good so I bought it and took it home, where I realized the frets in the neck were not parallel to each other. Kind of a free form take on the fan fret concept if you will. Which is what brings us to this rim being sold on its own.
The nickel plating is in good but not immaculate shape on the bracket band, tension hoop, and tone ring. Some of the hooks are pretty warn but they aren’t rusty. The head is branded “Vega Quality” so I’m guessing it’s original? Correct me if I’m wrong there.
It was a pretty good sounding though extra out of tune banjo. It deserves to thrive again with a neck equipped with a fretboard not made with Salvador Dali influences. I’ll probably be listing the badly fretted neck for sale too once I find a box that it’ll fit in so let me know if that interests you.
Thanks for looking and feel free to reach out with any questions.
