A nice original set of 30 from an 11 13/16 Whyte Laydie from the 56,000 serial number block. This set will work on any 10 15/16 (uses 28 and have 2 extras) or 11 13/16 (uses all 30) standard prewar model Vega banjo such as Type N, F, Little Wonder, Whyte Laydie, or Tubaphone (will not work on Vox, Moderne, and some other models).
Some surface rust on "Bessemer Steel" (as the Vega catalog specified) hooks, but a lot of good original nickel plating left; nuts have nice plating with a little fogging on some, but no wear on the round bottom ends. These are the closed ball end 9/32" wrench size nuts.
These hooks look "just right" for a nice old banjo that is not in absolutely mint condition. I have not cleaned or derusted these...they are exactly as they came off the virgin original untouched banjo that still had it's origianal skind head. The threads are in very nice condition. I have had great results by using a toothbrush size hand brass wire brush or a scotch brite pad to just smooth the surface rust, then wax, just like old style gun blueing or russetting to get a smooth even nice finish that retains the original patina but that is nice to look at, touch, and use. I have left this up to the next owner to decide how to proceed with these in their completely untouched original state.
