I have here a New Old Stock 5 Star 11 inch Clear banjo head. It is not marked, but looks exactly like the 5 Star heads that are not being made now according to what I have read. I just put one of them on my banjo, and it really sounds great.
This is the clear version of the 5-Star banjo head. Designed to fit an 11" rim banjo. The height is nominally "medium crown" but the material from from these heads are made is slightly more "elastic" than most other type of head. They will therefore fit happily on many banjos which would otherwise require a "high crown" head. As these heads have a very solid rolled outer rim, they will take rather more tension than some other kinds of head. A 5-Star head will always take a little longer to "bed-in" than other types of head. The clear type has a brilliant bright sound.
