I have a near mint condition Alvarez 4320 Whyte Eagle. The banjo and case are in beautiful shape with very little wear on any part. It looks to me like the armrest may be a little dulled in one spot. Alvarez doesn't make these anymore and their serial numbers seem to be arbitrary, but this banjo is either from the mid-80's or from 2004. I've recently come across information from an expert from the former St. Louis Music Company (they imported all Alvarez banjos before 2005) that the Whyte Eagle was discontinued in 1986, but that a small run of around 100 were made in 2004. The project was canceled when production costs rose. The serial number on this banjo is 342173, but that same expert says the serial number sticker would have been added once it had already been imported. Whyte Eagles are beautiful instruments featuring the double coordinating rods, an arched-brass tone ring, flamed maple resonator and ebony fingerboard. This one has a very full and loud sound to it. The neck has a beautifully carved heel and back of the peghead. The neck is straight, shows extremely little wear and the frets are in excellent condition. If you are looking for an archtop banjo you won't go wrong with this one. The action is perfectly set making it much easier to hold full chord positions anywhere up and down the neck. It could use new strings, but rather than change those in advance, I will throw in a set of new strings to start the buyer off right.
The sale includes a case in excellent condition. I have included as many pictures as this forum will allow so you can see the condition of the banjo for yourself. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or if you want to come buy and try it out.
