Here is an “almost excellent” Rich era Earl Scruggs Standard. Descriptions of used instruments is very subjective!
Completed in July 1989. I’ve read on BHO that 87-89 were the magic years. But, I don’t know about that.
Here’s the deal. I bought this banjo used in 2010. When I bought it the tailpiece was broken so the banjo had very little play time. I replaced the tailpiece and I have played it at home. I’ve only taken it to jams a couple of times. It’s just too nice for me to take out of the house...makes me nervous and I have other instruments. All of the fret wear is in the bottom five frets. It DOES NOT need any fret work.
Zero buckle rash on the instrument. No checking. There is a nick in the peg head shown in third picture. That’s the way it came to me.
Some tarnish on the metal. I put a new Remo head on it and cleaned up the metal a bit. However, I did not take the instrument apart. The pot/flange could use a bit of cleanup.
Banjo has “Gibson” branded Keith d-tuners.
Notable: some ESS banjos have a copy of Earl’s autograph. This banjo has his actual hand signed autograph.
Hate to sell it but I hate to have it sitting in my office even more.
Ships in original case with original key and quality assurance hang tag.
I replaced the case handle with a steel reinforced handle. Original handle rubber coating was degrading, perhaps due to age.
