Huber Jim Mills Model, 2005. Gold plated, armrest, tone ring and tailpiece engraved. This is a faithful reproduction of the 1939 Mack Crow RB-75 that has been Jim Mills go-to banjo for many years.
Neck and resonator are mahogany. The neck is a very smooth speed neck finish, with a slight V-shaped profile. The tone ring on this model is reportedly slightly heavier than the Huber rings of the 2005 period.
The gold plating is in remarkable condition. There are some temperature induced surface lines on the resonator, which are not as apparent as they appear in the photos. Overall, the wood finish is very nice.
The banjo has a powerful, yet sweet tone, at every position on the fingerboard. The 4th string power is quite noticeable, but the overall balance from bass to treble is what all discerning banjo players search for.
The case appears nearly new.
Feel free to ask questions about any points I may have overlooked. If you want a sound sample, listen to the Accutab Jim Mills Winning Style DVD, or any of the Ricky Skaggs concerts, during the many years Mills played with Skaggs. Probably several concerts posted on YouTube.
