This neck came off a 1908 Fairbanks Whyte Laydie NO 2. banjo. I do not believe it was the original neck, but it did come from the Fairbanks-Vega factory. As you can see by the pictures, the neck is in poor condition with a cracked heel and a hole through the fretboard and heel cap. Scale length of the ebonized hardwood fretboard is 27". Total length of the neck is 25-1/2".

This is an excellent opportunity for a banjo builder to own a Fairbanks Vega neck to use for a model. A great study piece to admire the smooth transitions from the peghead, to the neck, around the 5th tuner, and finally the heel. I have owned about 100 of these banjos and always admire the artistry that went in to them to make them right.
