This is the original #6767-1 and the 1st Skillet Head built and owned by luthier extraordinaire Warren Yates in 2011 in the Ron Stewart Signature Series. The rim label is signed by Warren Yates and Ron Stewart, (see photo). Warren provides a letter that accompanies this sale, (see photo) detailing the history of this banjo. During some of this early period, Ron used Warren's #1 Skillet Head and played this banjo extensively as part of a stage band for the DVD collection and RFD televised showing of Country's Family-Reunion Simply Bluegrass, of which some videos can be viewed on YouTube.
On my Banjohangout.com site, "OzarkMountain", or in the video section as "Skillet Head #6767-1" a video is provided by Charlie Cushman after his professional setup at Cushman Custom Banjo Setup Shop, Nashville, TN, December 6th and 7th, 2017. Photo are provided as well at Ozark Mountain. Charlie is well known for his professional setup shop working extensively with pre-war Gibsons and nearly any banjo made in the world today. In the process the head was changed to an American Made Banjo Company Head, one of his custom bridges, and a Prucha Presto Tailpiece. I asked Charlie to sign and date in small lettering the inside of the resonator along the outer edge. The tone and video speaks for itself of this great banjo.
While minor changes were done in the setup process, all original parts of this banjo are provided in this sale for use or preservation. The original Yates bridge, (see photo), the original Yates head, (see photo), the original Yates strings that came on the banjo, (see photo), the original Yates tailpiece, (see photo), and the original Yates strap seen on the Simply Bluegrass DVD. In addition, Warren provided a Four DVD set of the Simply Bluegrass production to be able to hear this banjo in a phenomenal stage band setting, all comes with the sale as well, (see photo). The band consisted of Ron Stewart, (banjo), Barry Bales, (bass), Adam Steffey, (mandolin), Bryan Sutton, (guitar), and Stuart Duncan on fiddle. It was taped for two days in November 2013 and premiered 3 dates on RFD in March, 2014.
The banjo comes with a new Superior Hardshell case and is being sold to fund a purchase of a pre-war banjo.
