I just spoke to the owner of this banjo, and I guess you could say he is a motivated seller. He has authorized reducing the price on this banjo to $2800. Folks that's well below the accumulated parts cost of this banjo.
Someones going to get a great buy...
I just received this banjo from one of my customers. It is a great sounding banjos with only a few issues that should be noted. From what I understand from the fellow who has the original tenor neck that came off this banjo, the serial number on the back of the peghead is FG266-8. That would put this as one of the 1940-41 banjos. That would be why the original flange is near perfect. About half the original hooks and nuts on the other hand are somewhat rusty. One L bracket is new as well as the tailpiece, and the armrest looks to be post-war. The back of the resonator has been resprayed. Sounds like a lot of issues but the good thing is that this banjo has a great sound. I took it all apart and did a complete set-up including a nice fret dressing. I could not identify the tone ring, but it really does have a great sound. The neck is of very good quality and plays very well. The cam tuners took me awhile to set-up but are kind of cool to use.
I've tried to describe this banjo as best as I could and I believe the price reflects what it is and will be a great buy for someone...Bill
