One of those famous unmarked spun over rim banjos that has stood the test of time. This one has character galore. The finish (if there ever was one is long gone) the frets could use a little filing on the ends (as wood ages it shrinks and that’s what has happened here.)
This one appeared on my desk one day. I did some restoration work on it only to be told that the new owner just brought it in to show it to me. $50 into the repair work I decided to stop. Here it is for sale. Don’t let anybody tell you that these old spun over rim/hide head/gut strung banjos lack volume—it just isn’t true. Check out the video...

Playable condition. Action is a bit on the high side but that isn’t so bad with the style of music that you will be playing on this banjo. If I were going to keep it I would fool around with the truss rod a bit to get it down a little more but I’ll leave that to you—I’ve had it about a year and see no need to lower it personally.
Original tailpiece and nearly all hooks and nuts are original also.
One tuning peg looks original (or maybe even home made), the rest are modern replacements. Fifth string is a nice friction tuner. I added one of my walnut stained hide heads (which looks really authentic), put a newer rosewood bridge on it, and strung her up with nylgut minstrels to give it that fat minstrel low tuned sound. It is currently tuned to the key of “D.”
It can be yours for $150. No case but I will pack carefully.
