For sale is a 1927 Gibson TB3 conversion with no hole arch top tone ring.
This banjo is in excellent shape. Pot assembly appears to be all original with the exception of the arm rest. At one time, the banjo was fitted with a Vibrato armrest mute that has sense been removed.
I was told that the neck was built by Smitty Smith. I would describe it as a SLIGHTLY larger profiles than typical Gibson……VERY comfortable and fast (speed neck). Notes true up and down……plays extremely smooth. When I first got the banjo I had thought I would possibly replace the neck, but once I played it, saw no need at all, it’s good.
The banjo has Five Star Tuners at 7, 8 and 9. The resonator has been refinished at some point in time but still maintains that vintage look, very appropriately done as you can see in photos. Just put on new AMB head with fresh AMB medium strings.
There is nothing not to like about the banjo……tone is excellent as you would expect from the no hole ring (some call the poor man’s prewar) and absolutely tons of volume on tap. Very powerful banjo. Only looking to sell to possibly get back into a Yates.
I would be winning to consider other trades depending on what you have in mind and would take difference or make up difference depending on trade values. Let me know what you got.
Comes with older Superior case in good condition. Strap not included (sorry).
