I am offering this exceptional, mint condition, as-new banjo made by a very talented luthier.
12 inches diameter x 3/8 inch thick maple rim with an ebony cap. A raw brass Dobson tone ring, 18 raw brass shoes and hooks, a hand made notched heavy brass tension hoop with brass hooks and nuts and ball shoes. All the brass hardware is lightly aged.
Raw brass wire armrest and no knot style tailpiece.
5/8 inch heavy Moon bridge.
Natural calfskin 12-inch head.
Raw brass dowel stick brace and hardware.
Brass Gotoh tuners with ebony knobs.
New hand made solid curly maple neck with an adjustable truss rod (heel access).
Ebony fingerboard with ebony bindings, heel cap and head plate.
Mother of pearl hand cut inlays: Fleur-de-lis on the headstock; star on 5th fret.
Neck is 1 5/16 inch at the nut and 2 inches at the heel.
Scale is 25 1/2 inches. Frets are nickel /silver. Bone nuts.
Action is extremely comfortable; set at 1/8 of an inch at the last fret.
S-scooped after the 17th fret.
Great old time sound with a lot of volume, a strong deep "plunky" bass with a bright, sparkling sweet high end. It is a well balanced banjo in sound and playability. His new all hand-made banjos usually cost approx. $1950.00.
