I am reducing the price on this banjo. It is also worthy to note that the Presto tailpiece on this banjo appears to be an original 5 string Presto.
I just received this 1930 Style 1 in from one of my customers. It is really sweet. The pot assembly is very original and un-molested other than having a tone ring added. The hardware(flange) shows the normal uneven look that the early 30s flanges show, but it is relatively flat and not pulled. The nickel on the armrest is still not worn looking and it does sport a pre-war presto. Tension hoop is excellent. It is a 4 lug resonator and one thumb screw was missing. I replaced it with a pre-war thumb screw and it looks good but it wasn't a perfect match.
I don't know what the tone ring is other than it is a quality ring, 3lb, 4.9oz and the fit to the rim is perfect. I was told that Bill Blaylock did the fit and his work is top notch. The inside of the ring has some nice chatter that you get when it's cut on a lathe. The neck is reported to be an older, 10-15 year old, Frank Neat and looks to be pretty much perfect and a good match for the resonator. It is double-cut peghead, with Leaves and Bows peghead and a Flying Eagle fingerboard.
The sound and playability are outstanding. Every bit what you would want and expect from a banjo in this price range. It does come with a hard shell case, and satisfaction guarantee...Bill
