This is a beautiful, hand-crafted, fretless mountain banjo made by Leon Ballard of the United Kingdom. He was a furniture maker, playing banjo on the side, and decided to follow his bliss, and turned his wood-working talents and expertise to making banjos. I bought it new less than a year ago, and it has less than an hour playing time on it. It has stayed in a gig bag in my bedroom. So it is like new. BTW, the new comparable mountain banjos cost 500 pounds, or approx. $750.00, so I think this is fairly priced.
It has friction pegs, which actually tune and hold very well, and Chris Sands nylon strings, which sound great with the fretless fingerboard.
Here are the specifications:
24 3/4" Scale
1 piece Maple neck
Walnut Burr Fox design on Birds Eye Maple background peghead
Ebony violin friction tuners
Nylon strings (Chris Sands medium)
10" Cherry pot
Remo Ambassador head with logo removed
Ebony nut and 5th string pip
Cherry bridge with Ebony cap (replaced by Sullivan Roasted Maple Bridge, but original bridge included)
