This is a great old-time openback banjo with a full round sound. The maple neck has a 26-3/8" scale rosewood fretboard with a scoop at the end, and features a very nicely designed, specially shaped 1/2" thick, 11" diameter 3-ply maple rim that requires no tone ring, but yields a very fine sound. Other features include maple neck with adjustable truss rod, 24-bracket hook pattern with notched tension hoop, no-knot tailpiece, dual coordinator rods, planetary tuners & geared 5th peg, nickel hardware, dot inlaid rosewood fretboard with scoop at the end to facilitate frailing, and a dark stained satin finish. I replaced the original Remo FiberSkyn head with a 4-star John Balch Goatskin head, which only enhanced the tone. However, the original Fiberskyn will be included with the banjo, as will the original Presto tailpiece, and the original standard ebony-topped maple bridge. I upgraded it with the terrific Sullivan Roasted Maple Bridge with Crowe spacing.
In short, this is a great sounding, great playing banjo. You get a near-professional feel and tone at an entry-level price. It has been very gently handled and barely used. Still in as-new condition. It has never left my bedroom and is setup, ready to play. No gig bag or case, but it will be well-packed to arrive safely.
