One of the nicest banjos that I have ever owned in regards to playability and sound. Check out my video youtube.com/watch?v=Nf4g_NS8Vd...Af07EBpdA
This one started out life as a 1927 TB-1. The appearance of this banjo is fantastic as the pics will show. Serial number on rim is 8888-49 (but I can't tell the 8 from the 3 so it might not be correct...Serial number on resonator is 8651-19. At some point I’ll bet that somebody was attracted to the appearance of a double bound resonator and simply swapped out the old resonator for a double bound one. The resonator has been refinished. Beautiful stain and finish all around. Modern (Hatfield I believe) hardware.
The straight grained maple neck is radiused and came from non other than Mr. Arthur Hatfield himself. Once you play a neck that has a radius you will never go back. The inlay is the RB-1 “Gull and Wing” pattern.
This banjo simply could not play any easier. She is currently set up with a modern Remo head and a Nechville radiuses bridge. The neck has a nice low profile shape with an ever so slight “V” shape to it. The frets are fairly wide with virtually no play wear at all.
This banjo is POWERFUL and LOUD. With the pre-war rim and resonator this banjo has the heart and soul to produce the coveted pre-war sound. The Huber HR-30 ring has almost endless power. The sound is strong, clear, and even from the first fret to the last. Out of all the banjos that I’ve ever owned this one is hands down the strongest down the neck.
If you are looking for a flathead that will shread then this is the one for you. If you want to dominate in a jam and send the other banjos and their owners home crying then this is the one. The sound is big, fat, and loud. I honestly think that this one is as close to the sound of an original flathead as can reasonably be achieved. To boot, it is a breeze to play. I think that you would have to search long and hard to find a pre-war conversion with these quality components at a better price.
Will be shipped in a nice hardshell case. Will be shipped with modern armrest (NOT the Nechville in the pic.)
