This an outstanding instrument and priced well below what you would expect for a professional quality banjo.
I go this banjo in from a customer who purchased it from me several years ago. That being said, it is still in the very condition it was when I sold it to him. It is perfect. No fret wear, scratches or any ding to diminish it in any way. Here is the story on this banjo:
The pot assembly is a 100% original pot assemble from a 1959 Style 100 banjo complete with original 3 ply rim and all hardware. The rim was cut for a 20 hole Dannick tone ring and the resonator was re-skinned in beautiful burled walnut by Jimmy Cox. The walnut neck blank that I used also came from Jimmy and had sat in his basement for lots of year before I got a hold of it. In other words, nice age on the neck wood.
The neck also has Brazilian rosewood fingerboard that you would be hard pressed to tell from ebony because it is so dark. Guitar restorers would kill for this quality of rosewood for their Les Paul restorations. Sorry guys, I bought all he had left.
In finishing this banjo, I paid special attention to trying to keep the wood purfling on the resonator from taking any stain. I wanted it to pop. Lots of taping and clear lacquer first on the purfling, then re-taping and staining of the walnut. The effort paid of. This is a beautiful banjo, with the sound that you would hope for.
