Weymann Style 2 Tenor Banjo from 1925. Serial Number Number 36376. This was beginning to get into the higher end Weymann banjos.
This one has the highly sought after megaphonic rim assembly. The hooks go down through the rim itself. I’ve heard that the rim is an early block assembly type. Whatever it is it is as stable as anything I’ve seen. Everything is there including the innovative dowel rod action adjuster. I mounted the hide head. A little piece of inlay is missing from one of the inlays, pic included. This one also has the pop off resonator. The original felt is gone but I have replaced it with modern felt.
The sound is unbelieveable. These make fantastic conversions. IMHO they are just as good if not better than Gibson conversions. Take a listen to Jerry Garcia’s Weymann conversion and tell me it doesn’t sound as good as any Gibson conversion you’ve heard. youtube.com/watch?v=8wFvIWXd8wo.
I was going to convert it myself but the cost of an accurate reproduction neck and the few people who can make them correctly made me decide against it. But, let me say again, this would make a fantastic conversion for a variety of styles from clawhammer, two-fingered, or bluegrass. The removable resonator is definitely a plus.

Yes, these do prefer a tighter head. I would think that a clear head would do just fine.
Fit finish are fine and action is as good as it gets. Previous owner carved his initials into it at some point. Beautiful binding all around and multi-piece neck.
In pretty nice shape for an almost 90 year old banjo.
Finished in beautiful blonde maple.
