This is a 1925 Vega Whyte Laydie banjo with a 5 string Wyatt Fawley neck. The Vega Style R pot is 11 13/16" in diameter. The banjo has a John Balch calfskin head, 4 Waverly tuning pegs, a geared 5th string tuning peg, a no-knot tailpiece, and a Sosebee bridge. The three piece maple neck has a 26" scale length, a bone nut, a railroad spike at the 7th fret, and shows minimal fret wear. The fret board, peg head overlay, and heel cap are ebony. The original Vega dowel stick with matching serial number (64938) has been retained with the banjo. All of the metal parts of the banjo pot are original Vega, including the no-knot tailpiece and the armrest. The nickel plating on the banjo pot is in good condition for its age with some wear on the ends of the bracket nuts. A Superior bump style case is included in the sale. A used Renaissance head, in good condition, is also included. The banjo plays well with a sweet tone and very good volume.
