Martin HD-28 built in 1986. I recently acquired this from the original owner.
One of only 138 built as the guitar of the month in Sept. 1986 to commemorate the life of C.F. Martin III who died that year.
This one is one to leave for the grandkids as this Guitar was built to C.F. Martin III’s specs (very close to pre-war specs.)
Not your typical 1986 Martin HD-28 (although they were good enough), this one is extra special.
Specs are as follows
V-neck of Solid Mahogany (not select hardwood.)
Scalloped X bracing
Herringbone purfling/ivoroid binding
Diamond and squares inlay
Tortoise shell pickguard
Older syle Martin script on the headstock
Unbleached bone saddle
Unbleached bone nut
Bone bridgepins with some type of special red inlay in it (it really complements the amber color of guitar)
Special Ebony Tuner Buttons
Signed by C.F. Martin III, IV and the foremen who built it.
Tuners work great, no issues structural or otherwise. Straight neck. Not sure if the frets have ever been replaced but there is no fret wear and no buzz anywhere on the fingerboard.
Not a scratch anywhere on it. A small divot in the fingerboard on the second fret as one of the pics show.
Comes with original Martin Hardshell case with the brown lining inside.
Just like the old ones--aged top, and aged tone! Sounds like a cannon.
And not a bad investment either as vintage and collectable Martin Guitars have outperformed the stock market recently!
If you want an old style player that is also a good investment and you don’t want to break the bank then this is your hoss. Price is firm.
