This is a flush fret 5 string openback built by me. Its built on a walnut block rim with a cherry striped ash neck and a walnut fretboard with frailing scoop. This is some very, very hard wlanut. It was a built in fireplace mantle for a hundred years or more probably. Ive used it on a few fretless necks and it has worked great. The flush frets and inlays are also ash. The armrest is also walnut, i have a nickel allergy so i like to add armrests to all my banjos.
Ive also added vintage style black Grover friction tuners and a Elite Renaissance head. This banjo and hardware have been antiqued for a somewhat vintage or old look, but this banjo is basically new. All the wood has been hand rubbed with tung-oil and finished with paste wax for supper smooth finish. Ive built several banjos, but im definitly still in the learning phase. So there maybe a quirk here and there, but it is a good solid, sturdy player with a great old-time sound. Its fun to play and definetly loud for a fretless. The walnut rim has been cut back so the head rests on a small lip, like a woody tonering. I will post a sound file soon.
