This is a New Barry Sholder Gourd 5 String Banjo #044 Std.
The neck is American Cherry with a natural finish. Fingerboard is fretless with a lemon oil finish.(You can order this banjo with contrasting flush frets for an addtional charge.) The peghead overlay is Tineo, which is what Steinway Pianos are made of. The tuners are Friction Rosewood violins. The banjo is strung with a custom set of D'Addario nylon and composite classical guitar strings. These are a harder string than Nylgut.
The gourd measures 10 3/4" dia x 6" deep and has a 2 1/2" soundport on the upper side. This banjo has tremendous bass. As with all my banjo the interior of the gourd has been coated with fiberglass resin to strengthen the gourd as well as improve the acoustics.
There is a Romero style tailpiece that keeps the strings from touching the edge of the gourd.
