1926 Gibson Mastertone, model TB-3. Serial #8415-15
Excellent overall condition. For a banjo that's 85 years old, it's actually pretty amazing. The metal still shines. The frets and fretboard are excellent. No finish wear on the back of the neck. The binding is still fresh looking, with no discoloring, cracking, etc..
These early Mastertone tenors were made with the ball bearing tone ring assembly. Although they can easily be converted to a flathead, I think these banjos have a great sound as-is. If you did decide to go the flathead route, First Quality Music sells a conversion ring that's a drop in fit. (I highly recommend keeping all the original parts.)
With the addition of a quality 5-string neck, you'll have yourself a very nice pre-war player, and at a reasonable price. Of course, this is also a fine banjo for the tenor players out there.
To my knowledge, this banjo is 100% original. Please look at the pics and judge for yourself. I'll be happy to provide more upon request.
As always, local pick-up is best, but I can ship it to you at actual cost. Insurance and signature confirmation are required.
Asking $2395, or best offer. Interesting trades also considered.
