I have had this neck hanging around for years and it is not the best choice (scale length and heel arc) for either the 10 1/8” Little Wonder or 11 13/16” Tu-ba-phone pots that I need 5 string necks for. About 30 years ago my son was working as a luthier in the repair shop at Elderly and got the neck from one of the other luthiers there. He mounted it on a 10 15/16 “Tu-ba-phone pot from the mid 1920's and played it for the next fifteen years. At that point I treated him to a new and much fancier neck from Mike Ramsey. Being a good son, he gave me the old neck to sell or use for whatever. Never found the right whatever so might as well sell it.
The neck is mahogany, 3 piece with an ebony center strip and non-adjustable steel reinforcement rod – must work because the neck is still straight. The peghead overlay, fretboard, and heel cap are ebony, and the fretboard has been scooped at the last couple of frets. Dowel stick is mahogany and the same vintage as the neck. The scale length is about 26 3/16” and the width at the nut is 1 5/8”. The neck seemed to be a good fit on the 10 15/16” Tu-ba-phone my son had – I just don't know how well it would work on anything else – maybe a Whyte Laydie that has the same bracket band? Hardware included is Five Star tuners – no 5th string tuner or dowel stick hardware but you can get them from StewMac or..... I am including a bone blank that you can cut a new nut from. The lacquer finish is a little worn, but the frets and fretboard are good, inlays are tight, and again everything seems straight. I am asking $295 including shipping in the U.S. That will give me a start on the new neck fund for my big Tu-ba-phone.
