I've had 2 original #9s and one renecked #9 and they have always seemed to be special sounding-better than #3s (probably just my imagination). I love tubbies!!
I got this banjo from a friend who got into bluegrass his last few years. He was a folkie in the "Great Scare' of the '50s and '60s. I think the conversion was done back then. I don't know who did the work (I can't make out anything on the dowel stick except Los Angeles), but the Framus-type action adjustment works well and the inlays are very nice. Overall, the banjo is in great playing condition: the neck is absolutely straight and there is only a little wear on the first 3 frets. I can't remember the maker of the 5th-string capo, but you do.
It comes in a green interior Lifton case-very nice on the inside, a little rugged on the outside with one towel taking up the pot slack inside.
