Up for sale is a great 1984 Stelling WhiteStar in very good condition. This one has the dark maple stain; no major nicks or blemishes in the wood. There is a bit of light hazing and perhaps a scuff here and there as one would expect after 42 years. The metalwork shows some hazing/tarnish but no pitting, flaking or roughness — it could probably be polished to a great shine (barring maybe the armrest), but I’ve never been one to attempt that sort of thing.
Has Keith tuners installed on the 2nd and 3rd. Currently setup with a 5/8” bridge and 10-12-14-22-10 strings. Fully spiked. Action is pretty low, with light tension on the truss rod. There’s a bit of fretwear in the usual spots, but nothing that affects playability.
Plays great like every Stelling! I’ve had two other maple Stellings — a Sunflower with the Tony Pass rim and a Staghorn with the Cooperman rim — and I’d say this is my favorite sounding one. I’ve had it bright and tight, and full and mellow. Has a bit of growl with the current bridge, but rang clear and bell-like with an Aztec.
Comes with original case — it shows wear with ripped tolex, a broken latch… and a musty ol’ smell. But it does the job. I’ll cover shipping/insurance and will pack with care. No trades on this one as I need to thin the herd a bit.
