This one-off custom banjo by an unknown luthier features a multi-laminated Maple and Walnut pot with decorative marquetry. The all-new hardware features a notched tension hoop, a hand-rolled tone ring, and dual coordinator rods. It has a new head, a new Grover bridge, and a solid straight tailpiece. Except for the tiny bit of wear on the armrest, the pot is perfect.
The highly flamed Maple three-piece neck has an ebony fingerboard inlaid with abalone. The headstock inlay is Gibson's ‘wreath’ design. The premium planetary tuners have a matching geared 5th string tuner. The most obvious unique element is the custom heel carving. The ebony heel cap matches the fretboard nicely This thing is gorgeous and it plays like a dream.
Personally, I love playing three-finger Scruggs style (with picks) on it because it has great low action and the right amount of sustain and note separation. The sound is bright and open all the way up and down the fretboard. It's like having a resonator banjo at one third of the weight. It's loud and bright. It cuts and projects. It's powerful. Of course, you can also play Clawhammer on it if that is your preference. If you want a more traditional old-time sound, you can simply change the head, bridge, and strings. There are so many ways to change and adjust the sound and I'm happy to walk the purchaser through some options.
I'm just 'thinning the herd' as I have other banjos I'm playing more often. I just bought a brand new hard-shell case for shipping that will be included in the price. I usually use UPS for banjos and will make sure it's packed well and insured.
