Here is a somewhat odd artifact from the very early days of Gibson Banjos. Based on information gathered from the Spann book and expired instrument listings, I believe this 10-1/2” rim to be from a 1925 Gibson TB / TB-0.
I acquired the rim affixed to a handmade neck that had some issues (search “Gibson Five String Conversion neck” on eBay if you want that), so I elected to part it out to a degree. The flange, wooden armrest, and L brackets are not original but figured they may be of use to a future owner.
This has a tubular tonering mounted over some ball bearings, which is often found on trap door equipped banjos. This being a TB/TB-0, it was not made with a trap door, hence the lack of screw holes in the back of the rim.
Includes the original, very elegant, Gibson branded tailpiece.
The lag bolt holes have been modified and are kind of ugly, but they will be covered up by whatever neck and washers the future owner installs.
Thanks for looking and please reach out with any questions.
