Very recently picked up this fine banjo from Jim Britton, and now passing the baton at my cost- too many banjos for a small household!
..."These American/California made Fender Artist banjos have a very loyal following and for good reason. These early Fenders are know for their fantastic tone and volume along with a very comfortable neck. This particular one (serial no. 00396) dates to right around 1967 and is in great condition, featuring beautiful walnut and chrome plated hardware with the standard no-hole tone ring. This banjo ships in a Vintage Lifton case branded Vega."
I did a little online searching and found great articles on these old Fender banjos and those who played them- supportive of their quality and durability! I've described this one to be in excellent condition, here's why...This one has slight, very desirable wear from having been played these past 50 yrs- not heavy wear at all, but expected for the decades of use. First few frets are well worn, and I think I captured those in the photos. There is an approximately 3" diameter patch of buckle rash on the resonator back with the finish worn off. The rest of the finish including the back of the neck is looking fine, battle-proven but glorious! Spikes at 7, 9, also pictured. Will post videos later...
