These large rim Little Wonder tenors are great banjos regardless of how many strings are on the neck. They make fine Irish Tenors and very excellent five string conversions. The dance groove Old Time Banjo master Mark Olitsky primarily plays a banjo with one of these rims if you’d like to hear what this can sound like.
This 11-13/16” rim is in mostly good shape and has retained most of the original hardware apart from the tailpiece. The head is the original Rogers calf skin head which has a small hole in the left side of it. The only issue with the rim is that the tortoise colored celluloid binding is in various stages of disintegration, being missing in some spots and appearing “charred” in others. The binding is lifting from the rim in the 11 o clock position in the back of the rim.
This rim could stand to be cleaned, but with the charred edges I thought it would look odd with shiny parts so I opted to leave it be.
So yeah this one is a little messy given the binding situation, but it’ll be a great banjo again with a neck from your favorite maker.
