Back from a weekend with the girlfriend, it was very good!

Delightful in fact, hehe!!

She lives in Aromas, which is 20 miles south of Gilroy .... ended up riding my 250cc motorcycle down there, spent a couple of nights, note the big smile on my face ...

Decided to ride back along the coast, took the Watsonville route out to Highway 1, then to Santa Cruz, cruz'ed up/down Pacific Avenue and talked with people a little .... it's still Santa Crusty but there are a lot of people on the street and it may be a good place to play ... there's a bus that goes there from here, cost me about $6 each way but easier than hauling the banjo on the motorcycle that 40 miles each way I think.

Rode up from there past Pescadero to Rte. 84 and through lots of twisties and trees, BRRRR.... to Alice's Restaurant, had garlic fries and a beer and a coffee ... got sorta warmed up, and am back in my digs here in Mountain View.

Freezing my ass off of course - how warm one stays in winter is of course a factor of one's financial status not latitude, and since I am poor I must freeze my rear end off each winter ... would probably be shivering if I were in San Diego.

Just fixed up a heavily spiked egg nog, that should help ..

OK so, I'd put the shout-out on a Peak OIl board, one that I've been on for years, that I want a banjo, and lo and behold, I checked the mail and ..... someone has sent me enough that .... tomorrow I get to go buy a banjo.

Now to get out there and get pickin'.

I have enuf to get the banjo, a tuner some finger/thumb picks, a strap (essential for street playing) etc.

I'll play wif my new toy tomorrow, then get my azz out on the st. the day after tomorrow. The main principle of busking is: Get out there and do it.

And of course will keep all who care to read this posted :-)

The best basic picking pattern is Thumb on 3rd string, Index on 2nd, Thumb on 5th and Middle finger on 1st string. And you can alternate the thumb on 3rd and then 4th string. Hope this makes sense but it is a good picking pattern to back up singing a song with...just learn a few chords and learn a few slides and hammers and away ya go! Happy pickin Alex and I look forward to hearing of your busking escapades! Go ahead and write a book!

Yes, read how the pinky and ring should be anchored on the head, and the middle ("bad" finger) should pick the 1st string, and the index the 2nd etc.

And, well, come up with a pattern and see how it sounds!

sigh ... I'd write a book if I thought there was any money in it ..... does anyone make money writing any more? I doubt it.
