Back to "work"

Posted by Alex_C on Monday, December 1, 2008

Well, had an as-usual delightful overnight visit from my GF, and then was back to work. Actually did some work on Sunday in the AM, and did respectably, it was a nice sunny warm day. Then my GF and I ..... did fun stuff .... and she took off home in the early afternoon. So, I set off to "work" and NOT because it was a nice day, it was awful and cold and foggy today, but because I kept on plugging, I did decently. Horray for me, more in the banjo fund.

Saw a guy playing The Boxer by Simon and Garfunkel, he was on the "lie lie lie" part too bad or I'd have amazed him by singing along word for word hehe. Gave him $1 and talked a bit ... today was miserable for "donations" the public were just not cheerful, or most of them, out on the street but it looked like the guy was making maybe $10 an hour, that's good to see. He'll find he'll do better with experience.

Just gotta keep this going a couple more weeks then I can start out there singing too. Where are all the street musicians in this area? Lots of panhandlers out today, and of course I'm one, ugh.

One guy outside the Whole Foods in Palo Alto looks an *awful* lot like Ted Koppel! He has a sign, brown cardboard with black china marker, gotta make 'em squint, saying something about being 'financially oppressed". I gave him some change, 75c or so I think, and we talked. He's been homeless for about 5 months now and says he's sleeping warm enough, the thing is to stay dry in this weather and season. I said he should put something else on his sign, than the "oppressed" thing. I explained that the people going in/out of Whole Foods tend to be yuppie types who are often in business financially oppressing people, and don't like being reminded of it. Instead, emphasize something they can relate to, out of work, homeless looking for work etc not anything about oppression. The guy didn't seem to get it though, and I didn't have a pen and cardboard with me to help him make a better sign - maybe I should at least carry a Sharpie with me to help out ....

Sigh I need to start putting lyrics to songs I want to sing into a notebook with those reinforcements on the pages, and start memorizing some material.
