A weekly check-in on the Banjo versus TV project — J.R.'s resolution to spend more time in 2008 on his banjo than on TV. This post covers 9/30/2008 through 10/6/2008.
In anticipation of the short-neck banjo I'm working on, I've been creating some right-hand-only practice drills. So I've turned to the best source materials I can think of: bugle calls.
Also in the last week:

Great update; thanks. Using bugle calls as practice drills is a an innovative idea and i will give it a shot.

Thanks. It was shortly after I started my banjo lessons that I realized that open G tuning would allow me to do bugle calls on my open strings. I blogged about it then at http://jrjenks.blogspot.com/2007/07/bugling-banjos.html
I'm working up some tabs that mix roll exercises with bugle calls. I'll upload them to the Banjo Hangout when I've got 'em good.
