New Designs at Nechville

Posted by nechville on Monday, August 4, 2008

Worldwide interest in Nechville products continues to rise as we expand into our 20th year. In order to prove out our newest designs, Nechville is seeking high profile endorsers, performers and teachers to test Nechville's new ideas and light weight series of tone rings. Details on working as an affiliate of the "Banjo Revolution" can be found on One new tone ring choice features a cocobolo tone ring mounted on 80 tone spheres (ball bearings). Initial tests are encouraging and we are hopeful that this could become a nice alternative to the heavy brass in most banjos. Nechville is unveiling an all new Meteor banjo with revamped electronics, and a sturdier acoustical body. I want members of Banjo Hangout to know that we are holding the line on prices while offering lots of new choices for players through this new website.

Tone Spheres!  That was funny...nonetheless,an intriguing idea.  A low profile admirer.  Brad

The Term "tone Sheres" is meant as you took it, funny, but intriguing,  Plain wood works fine, but the spheres give the banjo a liveliness  that I like.

I stopped by Tom's table at a winter jamboree earlier this year and jammed a bit with with a couple fellows that were there. Tom was playing a banjo he had made using a wood tone ring. If I remember correctly, it was a cocobolo mentioned above. It sounded super. Tom, thanks again for taking care of my problem and setting up my Nechville Custom afterward. It sounded good before my snag, but better after you "dialed" it in. Much appreciated! Dave Peterson Riverton, MN

That should be Nechville Classic :-) .... well, it is kind of a custom with the 40 hole tone ring, but I meant Classic :-)

I always enjoy seeing Tom when he comes out west to Wintergrass, and hear what new ideas are floating around in his head.  It's good to see guys like him searching for new ways to take the banjo forward into uncharted territory.  I think we'll all be surprised by the banjos on the market 20 years from now, if we all make it that long.

I wondered why Gibson abandoned the tone ring supported by steel balls - I always thought reducing the contact area under the tone ring would help the ring and sustain of the tone ring...and your using a hardwood tone ring is a great idea increasing the warmth and reducing the weight.  Great job.  Keep up the thinking and innovation....I guess you have to do something on those cold winter nights up there.
